How we’ll put the ceremony together.

I’ll guide the conversations and take responsibility for writing and leading the ceremony. You can bring ideas, an unfinished draft or no particular plan.

  1. We talk

We have an initial conversation about the person who has died and any arrangements you’ve made. If there’s a date or venue, let me know so I can check my availability. You can contact me directly or ask your funeral director to get in touch.

  2. I listen

We arrange time for a longer conversation. I’ll ask about the person’s life and the details you remember. You don’t need to put their biography in order or decide which memories are worth mentioning. Other family members can contribute too.

  3. I write

I put the ceremony together, including the eulogy, readings and contributions we’ve discussed. If you’ve written something yourself, I can help edit it or work it into the service.

  4. We check the details

You can read the draft, check names and facts, and tell me what needs changing. I liaise with your funeral director and the relevant people at the venue about timing, music and speakers, so the ceremony fits the arrangements.

  5. I lead the ceremony

On the day, I arrive early and check that everyone taking part knows what’s happening. I lead the ceremony and support the people who are speaking. If someone needs me to read their contribution, I can do that. The same preparation applies to a memorial.

Working with your funeral director

They look after the wider funeral arrangements. I look after the ceremony and keep them informed about its structure, timing and contributions. You can approach either of us first.
